In Unity, we teach that love is the ultimate creative force in the universe. It’s the divine energy that binds us to one another and to God. When we choose to live from a place of love, we create an environment where happiness, success, and prosperity naturally flow. This principle is deeply rooted in both Unity teachings and the Bible.
Jesus’ teachings emphasize the power of love as the foundation for life. In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind... and love your neighbor as yourself.” Here, Jesus underscores the transformative nature of love. Love is not just a feeling—it is a commitment to a way of life. When we love God, others, and ourselves, we create a thriving spiritual foundation that manifests in every area of life.
From a Unity perspective, love is one of our twelve powers—the innate abilities that every individual possesses to live a divinely inspired life. Charles Fillmore, co-founder of Unity, described love as the power that harmonizes and unifies. It is this force that brings peace, prosperity, and healing to all situations. Living from love means we are constantly aligning ourselves with the truth of our being: that we are divine expressions of God’s love, capable of creating lives filled with joy, success, and harmony.
One of Unity’s core teachings is that our thoughts and feelings create our reality. As we focus on love, we naturally draw loving experiences into our lives. This idea is reflected in Proverbs 23:7, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” When we choose love in our thoughts, words, and actions, we cultivate a life where abundance and joy are the norm. Instead of reacting to life with fear, anger, or judgment, we pause and ask, “How can I respond to this with love?”
Operating from love doesn’t mean we avoid challenges or difficult emotions. Life will always present us with opportunities to grow. But when we respond to these challenges with love, we allow ourselves to see beyond the surface level of any situation. We recognize that every person and experience is an expression of the divine, even when it’s hard to see.
As we embody love, we begin to see its effects not only in our personal lives but also in our communities. Unity’s Fifth Principle teaches that, it is not enough to know spiritual truth; we must live it. This means actively choosing love in every moment, in every relationship, in every word we speak, and in every decision. As we do, we become beacons of light. This creates the new world we are seeking.
I Love You...
