Re-reading The Game of Life by Florence Scovel Shinn that was written in 1925, was like a new edition to me. I had read her works many years ago, however, maybe I wasn’t ready for the response I am getting to it now.
This book was a Christmas present that the church gave to our membership for renewal of our actions in life. Reading the book again had me look at so many aspects of my life. What I found were suggestions that has us look at actions of the mind and how to have my life working in so many different joyous ways. I realized this would be a book to read, study, practice and digest.
The three C’s that Rev. Robert always talks about: criticism, condemning, and complaining would be the first thing to stop indulging in. If that doesn’t work for you, this book is really not recommended.
We are presented with so much false fear taking place these days that the over soul just picks it up and we think it is ours. We become afraid of things we never, even, ever thought of. Most of it never, ever even happens. We sometimes feel like a walking target, what if this happens and that happens to me or us or my family? It is such a mind game that eventually converts to our physical body filling us with many kinds of aches, pains, diseases, depression, etc.
Florence Shinn in her book, The Game of Life, is supportive in training the mind to have a life that works with miracles occurring automatically daily. This is the way life is designed to be, with joy happening and life functioning in a peaceful, productive, and coherent way. Of course this is all mixed in with being thankful, appreciation and loving thoughts.
Here are of couple of quotes that add to my discussion from her book:
“When man/woman can ‘wish without worrying,’ every desire will be instantly fulfilled. (Page 13)
“The body may be renewed and transformed through the spoken word and clear vision, and disease be completely wiped out of the consciousness.” (Page 25)
“The simple rules are fearless faith, nonresistance and love!” (Page 93)
I look forward to sharing these ideas with you from this wonderful book at our Sunday Service.
Much Love,
Rev. Madelyn Gertrude
